Your adventure begins as you depart Fes and head towards the Sahara. The journey takes you through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you will stop in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and the cedar forests of Azrou. After crossing the mountains, you will drive through the stunning Ziz Valley, with its palm groves and dramatic gorges, passing by the city of Erfoud. Finally, you will arrive in Merzouga, where you will check into a hotel at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes and rest for the night.
Today is dedicated to exploring the desert region. In the morning, you will visit the village of Khamlia, home to black-skinned inhabitants known for their powerful Gnawa music; here you will enjoy mint tea and a private performance. After this, you will visit a desert lake before heading to Rissani, the historic heart of the Tafilalet oasis, where fortified villages (ksour) are surrounded by vast palm groves. In the afternoon, you will return to the hotel to prepare for the highlight of the trip: a sunset camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will spend the night in a traditional Berber tent, enjoying drumming music and the stillness of the desert.
Wake up early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After a short walk in the sand and breakfast, you will leave Merzouga. The route takes you through Tinjdad and the Todgha Valley to the famous Todra Gorges, where you will have lunch and time to walk between the towering cliff faces. Later, you will continue to the Dades Valley, passing through dramatic landscapes dotted with kasbahs. You will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel in the Dades Gorges.
On the way to Ouarzazate, you will travel through a series of stunning oases and fields. You will pass through the Valley of the Roses near Kelaat M’Gouna, famous for its annual rose festival, and stop at the Skoura palm grove, which contains hundreds of ancient kasbah ruins surrounded by nature. Upon reaching Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” you will check into your riad or hotel for the night.
Today begins with a visit to the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a stunning example of Berber earthen architecture, famous as a backdrop for many international films. After exploring the kasbah, you will cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, stopping at panoramic viewpoints to admire the ruins of ancient kasbahs. You will have lunch in Marrakech before continuing your journey west to the coastal city of Essaouira, where you will spend the night.
