Day Trip from Marrakech to Imlil Valley & Atlas Mountains
We will pick you up at 9:00 AM from your hotel in Marrakech or at a designated meeting point if you are staying in the Medina. Your exciting day trip to Imlil Valley and the Atlas Mountains then begins.
Our focus is always on experiencing the people, life, and culture of the Berber mountain villages. We want you to leave not just with photos, but with stories and memories of personal encounters with the individuals you meet during your day in the High Atlas hills.
During the drive, enjoy panoramic views over green valleys dotted with olive trees and ancient Berber villages near Tahanaout. We take the opportunity to visit a local women’s Argan oil cooperative in Tahanaout, where you can learn about traditional production methods.
Depending on the day, you may visit the weekly market. On Tuesdays, the market is in Tahanaout. On Saturdays, the market is in the Berber village of Asni.
We then head south through the Moulay Brahim Gorges and continue towards Imlil Valley. The drive follows a green river lined with various trees and flowing water. This picturesque valley showcases the everyday landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains.
Upon reaching Imlil Valley, the starting point for multi-day treks in the National Park and ascents of Jebel Toubkal, the second-highest mountain in Africa, you begin a guided walk through Berber villages to a waterfall. You will have the opportunity to learn about Berber hospitality and daily activities while seeing terrace fields of barley, corn, and vegetables surrounded by cherry and walnut trees. Alternatively, you can simply enjoy splendid views across the valley.
Your walk with a local guide lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours. Afterwards, you will enjoy a 3-course lunch on a terrace with breathtaking views of the High Atlas, served in a traditional Berber home near Imlil center.
After lunch, you may relax or explore more Berber villages before beginning your return journey to Marrakech, depending on available time.
