Wake up in the “Red City,” a place known for its spirit of tolerance and rich cultural fusion. After breakfast, you will meet your local guide at approximately 9:30 AM for a comprehensive walking tour. Today’s exploration includes the city’s most iconic landmarks: the Koutoubia Mosque, the ornate Saadian Tombs, the bustling Jemaa el-Fna square, the grand Bahia Palace, and the labyrinthine souks filled with local artisans.
Following breakfast, we journey towards the imposing High Atlas Mountains. After a scenic drive with a photo stop, we will visit a local Argan oil cooperative to learn about this traditional product. Our next stop is the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site and a striking example of southern Moroccan architecture. After time to explore the Kasbah and enjoy lunch, we continue our drive to the city of Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” for an overnight stay.
Departing Ouarzazate in the morning, we travel through the Valley of Roses, passing through Kelaat M’gouna. We then arrive at the dramatic Todra Gorges, where towering red cliff walls create a stunning canyon. Following lunch in the nearby village of Touroug, we continue towards Erfoud, renowned for its fossilized marble, before finally arriving at the edge of the Merzouga Desert, where you will stay in a hotel overlooking the dunes.
Today is dedicated to exploring the Erg Chebbi dune field. We’ll take a 4×4 to visit nomadic families, sharing tea and learning about their traditional lifestyle. The journey continues to the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnawa people, where we will be treated to a captivating concert of their spiritual music. After lunch, we return to Merzouga to begin our camel trek, crossing the golden sand dunes just in time to witness a breathtaking sunset before arriving at our desert camp for a night of music, dining, and stargazing.
Leaving the desert behind, we embark on our longest travel day towards Fes. We make our first stop at the panoramic Ziz Valley, followed by a drive through Midelt. Crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains, we pause in the cedar forests near Azrou, where we might spot the resident Barbary macaques. Our route then takes us through the alpine-style town of Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland,” before arriving in Fes by late afternoon or evening for an overnight stay in the Medina.
Today, we delve into the history of Fes, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. The guided tour begins at the Royal Palace with its seven golden doors and continues to the adjacent Jewish Quarter (Mellah). We’ll enjoy a panoramic viewpoint over the ancient medina before venturing inside to explore its bustling souks and traditional workshops. A highlight is visiting the historic tanneries, which have operated in the same manner since the 13th century.
Heading north, we stop first at Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities, before continuing to the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Here, we will take a guided tour to uncover the history of this ancient outpost of the Roman Empire. After exploring the site, we continue our journey to the striking blue-washed city of Chefchaouen, where we will spend the evening wandering its charming streets.
The morning is yours to freely explore the picturesque blue alleys of Chefchaouen at your own pace, capturing its serene beauty. After soaking in the relaxed atmosphere, we depart for the coastal city of Tangier. Upon arrival, we will visit the famed Hercules Caves and the Cap Spartel lighthouse, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The night will be spent at a hotel in Tangier’s city center.
Leaving Tangier, we make our way down the Atlantic coast towards the capital, Rabat. En route, we pause in the charming seaside town of Asilah, known for its whitewashed walls and vibrant art scene. Continuing to Rabat, we will enjoy lunch followed by a tour of the city’s key landmarks, including the Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the historic Kasbah of the Oudayas.
On our final full day, we begin the journey back to Marrakech with a significant stop in Casablanca. Here, we will visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world and a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture, notable for being open to non-Muslim visitors. Following a lunch in the city, we continue our drive, arriving in Marrakech by late afternoon for our final overnight stay.
